Here you will find the complete set of 906 Signe Brander photographs depicting Helsinki a century ago, and many other materials illustrating the lives of Helsinki residents in the past. Browse the collection’s treasures, from plastic bags to blowdryers and transport tickets to works of art, and also find historical information on buildings in Helsinki.

The terms and conditions of Helsinki City Museum images published in Finna are given separately for each image. Images marked with CC BY 4.0 can be freely downloaded and used as long as the names of the photographer/artist (if known) and Helsinki City Museum are mentioned. The user is responsible for respecting copyright and privacy. Using portraits, for example, in marketing and/or advertising is forbidden without permission from the person pictured. More detailed licensing terms can be found on the Creative Commons licensing website.

Images marked with © Kuvasto are copyrighted. You can browse them freely, but any further use of the images is forbidden without express permission. The images have been published online in compliance with the Art Collections Online contract between Kuvasto and the Finnish Museums Association. You can request more information on the terms governing further use directly from Museoliitto (the Finnish Museums Association).
